Adolescence is a fleeting moment, a moment that holds all the joy and impatience of childhood.This body of work represents moments from my childhood that are held in my memory.The dandelion form symbolizes an object that is seen as a weed but to child a thing of beauty.The traditional metalworking processes and forms I explore represent symbols of strength and resilience much like my growth as an individual. The etched glass surfaces capture the memories, growth, and fragility from my childhood.Through form, color, and texture I explore memories and fears that surrounded my fleeting adolescence.
This body of work of hand held objects made out of enameled copper mimics conch shell forms. The outside of the shells are representational of the conch shell form and color. The inside of each shell holds drawn images of places that are significant memories to the maker. The images are created with graphite and ceramic underglaze crayons on various colors of enamel. Interaction with the forms is required to view the hidden images and fully understand the objects. The organisms' protection provided by the conch shell runs parallel to the idea of the fabricated shells protecting the maker's nostalgic places.
